Liberating Videos: Abortion Stigma and Video Pilot Project

"Liberando Videos" ("Liberating Videos") is a pilot project based in Mexico City that uses smartphones to distribute short, viral videos promoting reproductive health and freedom. Through a series of rehearsals, trainings and brigades held from September 2013 to June 2014, a team of participants developed techniques for engaging pedestrians and transferring videos to their handheld devices with their consent. During the pilot project, thousands of videos were distributed to pedestrians. Enthusiasm for the project among the general public was greater than predicted, and we are now developing strategies to continue this project at other locations around the world in order to combat stigma surrounding reproductive health and freedom. Media Director of Nuestros Cuerpos, Nuestras Vidas, Gregory Berger presents the background, techniques, and progress of this pilot project and discusses the use of video and contact to mitigate stigma in other locations.
