Apply to serve on the 2017-2018 term of the inroads Global Steering Committee

Posted 1 October 2016 12:00 AM by Kati LeTourneau and Katie Gillum

As inroads co-conveners, we are pleased to announce that we are accepting applications from inroads members to serve on the 2017-2018 inroads Steering Committee. We are so grateful to the current members of the Steering Committee who have been with us since shortly after the network launched in 2014. Since then and with their support and strategic guidance, we’ve cultivated a global network of more than 500 members from more than 60 countries! The stage and needs of the network are shifting, and we have a unique opportunity to take inroads member voices into account in selecting the next Steering Committee. By serving on the inroads Steering Committee, you would be contributing to the advancement of the network and movement to end stigma and discrimination, collaborating regularly with committed activists across the globe, and helping the network take strides toward a member-driven future.

Applying to serve on the Steering Committee. If you are interested in applying to serve on the 2017-2018 term of the inroads Steering Committee, please read this document fully with more details about the structure of the committee; application, review and selection process; and the roles and responsibilities of the Steering Committee.

Current inroads members are eligible to apply for the following positions within the Steering Committee:

  • Africa Regional seat
  • Asia/Pacific Regional seat
  • Latin America/Caribbean Regional seat
  • North America Regional seat
  • European Regional seat
  • INGO member seat
  • Abortion provider member seat

Ipas, as host organization of inroads, will also designate a staff person to serve on the 8-person Steering Committee.

Applications are due on November 7th at 11:59pm EDT. All applicants are encouraged to read the Steering Committee Application Process and Details document and check for eligibility and availability for the commitment level. All application must be received through the online form. Applications sent separately cannot be considered. If you have questions about the form or process please email info@endabortionstigma.org or attend the webinar about the Steering Committee and the selection process.

Member voting process. We are also thrilled to announce that inroads members will have an opportunity to provide input into the selection process of the 2017-2018 inroads Steering Committee! Upon processing applications submitted by the deadline, we will share on the inroads Collaboration Workspace a voting tool with a brief profile of each applicant. Members will have a chance to nominate up to three candidates for each relevant seat. For example, if you are a member from Ghana, you will be able to nominate up to three applicants for the Africa seat, for three applicants for the INGO seat, and for three applicants for the Abortion Provider seat.

After the member voting period closes, the inroads co-conveners will make final selections, based on a range of skills and characteristics across applicants, as well as the unique governance needs of the network, from a pool of the 5 top ranked members for each seat. The host organization will delegate the individual to serve in the inroads Host organization seat. Stay tuned to the inroads Collaboration Workspace listserv for your opportunity to make nominations starting in mid-November!

We are so excited to open up the steering committee to applicants from our much broader and engaged membership. And we cannot wait for the network to get the benefit of the deep wealth of experience and engagement that all inroads members have had whether you’re applying or voting for the next Steering Committee. Either way your engagement in the application or decision-making process will shape and guide this network.

How to apply:

  1. Review the Steering Committee Application Process and Details document.
  2. Get your questions answered at the October 19th Webinar to hear more from inroads staff about the Steering Committee roles and responsibilities and the selection process!
  3. Complete the 2017-2018 Steering Committee application.

Great! Truly global network - comprised of organizations working at the grass-root level (where the need of ending stigma lies) of different countries to global. This initiative will surely expands and deepens network like a series of concentric circles -spiraling up and up to end abortion stigma from the nook and corners of the Globe.
